The Centre informed the Supreme Court that India had a very low incidence of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) cases of Thrombosis and Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) during administration of 220 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines. It said till September 30 this year India has administered 219.9 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine. A total 26 AEFI cases of TTS were reported, of which 14 recovered and 12 died.

C'garh eyes population-ratio plan, total quota may breach 80%
The special session has been called to resolve the impasse arising out of the recent high court decision that set aside a 2012 government order taking overall quota to 58%, ruling that reservation above 50% is unconstitutional. If the government goes through with its proportional-quota plan, it could take reservation in Chhattisgarh to 81% — possibly the highest in the country.

Govt’s FY23 food subsidy bill likely to cross Rs 3L cr
The government’s food subsidy bill is likely to cross Rs 3 lakh crore during the current financial year, nearly 50% more than the budget estimate of Rs 2lakh crore. This is primarily due to the extension of free foodgrain scheme, PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) till December. According to estimates, this will be the second highest subsidy outgo for providing highly subsidised and free foodgrains to nearly 80 crore identified beneficiaries.

Centre plans to include J&K ‘Balmiki’ members in SC list
As per the proposal, the ministry for social justice and empowerment is proposing the inclusion of ‘Balmiki’ in the SC list. The name is a spelling variation of ‘Valmiki’ which is already in the SC list, but given the strictness adopted in the recognition of Dalit groups, the difference leads to omission of many individuals or households from the ‘Balmiki’ caste from reservation and other affirmative action benefits.

Winter session to begin on Dec 7, govt may table data protection bill
The winter session of Parliament will commence from December 7 and will continue until December 29, “subject to exigencies of government business”, the Lok Sabha secretariat said on Saturday. Thrown out of Rajdhani by TTE, jawan loses legs
A 29-year-old Army jawan of 24 Rajputana Rifles, Sonu Kumar Singh, lost both his legs and is battling for life at a military hospital after he was allegedly pushed off the Rajdhani express by a TTE at Bareilly station on Thursday. He is yet to regain consciousness and is "critical", doctors said.
