9 killed as car falls 800ft into gorge on Srinagar-Leh highway

36 dead in every 100 accidents, severity at 20-yr high in 2020

The severity of road crashes was at 20 years’ high during 2020 when at least 36 people died in every 100 such accidents, according to a report of the road transport ministry released on Wednesday. The data on road deaths also show that two-wheeler occupants had a huge share of 43.5% of the total road deaths and there was a 79% increase in the number of fatalities due to jumping of traffic lights and 20% rise in deaths due to driving on the wrong side.

Govt seeks to cool down steel, plastic and cement prices

The government on Saturday unveiled a series of duty cuts to cool down prices of iron and steel, coal and plastics, while promising to more than double the subsidy allocation for fertilisers to cushion the impact of the Ukraine war on farmers.
