186 Indians take off from Jeddah, 3k leave Sudan so far

As Operation Kaveri is underway, the Kochi-bound ninth flight departed from Jeddah with 186 passengers. 'Cashless' Haj for 1.4 lakh this year as govt will issue forex cards

With the number of Haj pilgrims crossing 1.4 lakh this year, including the largest ever contingent of over 4,300 women above 45 years who will be travelling without Mehram (male companion), the government has made special arrangements for "cashless" pilgrimage by catering to the foreign exchange requirements of the travellers. All Haj pilgrims will be provided a forex card by State Bank of India (SBI).

Cheetah Oban, one of the four released in the wild at Kuno, got out of the protected area of the National Park on Sunday, triggering a frantic effort to push it back. A viral video shows Oban hunkered down in a farmland outside the Kuno jungles, while foresters try to coax it back. "Go Oban, please go," they are heard saying in English on the presumption that the Namibian-origin animal would be more familiar with the language than Hindi.

2x Covid surge in a week, sharpest since 3rd wave in January 2022

India logged over 3,800 new Covid cases on Saturday, the highest daily tally in six months, as infections in the past seven days surged at the fastest rate since the third wave in January 2022. India recorded over 18,450 fresh cases in the past week (March 26-April 1), a 2.1x rise over the previous seven days’ tally of 8,781. The doubling time of cases has reduced to less than seven days. The last time the daily tally was more than doubling in a week was during the third wave.
